ESPIRITUALIDAD Y RELIGIOSIDAD EN ESTUDIANTES UNIVERSITARIOS: MANIFESTACIONES Y FUENTES. UNA REVISIÓN SCOPING, SIGUIENDO LAS DIRECTRICES DE PRISMA

SPIRITUALITY AND RELIGIOSITY IN UNIVERSITY STUDENTS: MANIFESTATIONS AND SOURCES. A SCOPING REVIEW, FOLLOWING PRISMA GUIDELINES

RESUMEN:  El estudio de la religiosidad y espiritualidad entre los jóvenes universitarios es imperante, debido a su profundo impacto en el bienestar estudiantil, el desarrollo de la identidad, y, por, sobre todo, en la consecución del éxito en sus vidas personales. Esta investigación tiene por objetivo analizar críticamente la evidencia relativa a las manifestaciones y fuentes de religiosidad y espiritualidad de estudiantes universitarios. Tras un cuidadoso proceso de búsqueda, selección y análisis de 66 artículos, se seleccionaron 15 para nuestra Scopy Review, siguiendo las directrices PRISMA. Se analizaron los hallazgos sobre religiosidad y espiritualidad de estudiantes universitarios, que incluyó la exploración de estudios en diversas bases de datos académicas, tales como Web of Sciences, Scopus, SciELO y EBSCO. La mayoría de estos estudios se han realizado en países Europa, Asia, África y Norteamérica, salvo uno que se hizo en Brasil.  Estos estudios revisados han investigado la espiritualidad y religiosidad combinándolas con otras variables en estudiantes universitarios. Los hallazgos sobre las manifestaciones y fuentes de espiritualidad y religiosidad confirman la relevancia del desarrollo de estas dimensiones en la vida de los estudiantes universitarios. También se encontró que tanto la espiritualidad y religiosidad responden a nuevas percepciones y fuentes, que no necesariamente corresponde a las religiones tradicionales. Se concluye que, la espiritualidad y la religiosidad desempeñan un papel significativo en la vida de los estudiantes universitarios, pero su manifestación sus fuentes son diversas y variables. Reconociendo las manifestaciones y promoviendo la diversidad de fuentes en el contexto universitario, se podrá ayudar a los estudiantes a desarrollar estas dimensiones, que sin duda tienen un impacto en el bienestar y el éxito de los estudiantes en su trayectoria académica y en su vida en general.

ABSTRACT: The study of religiosity and spirituality among young university students is essential due to its profound impact on student well-being, identity development, and, most importantly, on achieving success in their personal lives. This research aims to critically analyze the evidence related to the expressions and sources of religiosity and spirituality in university students. After a thorough process of searching, selecting, and analyzing 66 articles, 15 were chosen for our Scoping Review, following the PRISMA guidelines. The findings on religiosity and spirituality in university students were examined, including the exploration of studies from various academic databases such as Web of Science, Scopus, SciELO, and EBSCO. Most of these studies have been conducted in Europe, Asia, Africa, and North America, with the exception of one study in Brazil. These selected studies have explored spirituality and religiosity in conjunction with other variables in university students. The findings on the expressions and sources of spirituality and religiosity underscore the significance of developing these dimensions in the lives of university students. It was also discovered that both spirituality and religiosity are influenced by new perspectives and sources, which do not necessarily align with traditional religions. In conclusion, spirituality and religiosity play a significant role in the lives of university students, but their expressions and sources are diverse and variable. Recognizing these expressions and promoting diversity of sources in the university context can help students develop these dimensions, which undeniably impact their well-being and success in both their academic careers and in life in general.
